Stepping out: Exploring Public Space
A Creative Lab for British South Asian Artists
17th-20th October 2022
@101 Outdoor Arts

Stepping Out is a new residential Creative Lab for British South Asian artists who are considering making new work for outdoor settings.

This 2 day and 3 night residential lab will explore the foundations of creating, producing, and presenting art for public space. Designed by Independent Creative Producer and Consultant Sud Basu and 101’s Strategic Lead Simon Chatterton, the lab will bring together a range of speakers and panellists including established artists, makers, producers, and specialists from across the performing arts sector. The lab will include a number of daytime and evening sessions which will range in format and provide opportunities to learn, share, understand, make new connections, build relationships and ultimately support the early steps towards a creative path of making new work for public space.

Participants will be offered

- The 2 day & 3 night residential course
- A mentor to support their journey into and out from the lab
- Access to producers, programmers and commissioners from across the UK

1. Established British South Asian Artists from any form with 5 + year professional career who have not made work for public space

2. Early Career British South Asian Artists – with under 5 years of professional practice - who have started to explore the public space in their work.
