Summer School with Le G. Bistaki: Creating Performance in Public Space

101 Lab

Creating performance in public space with Le G. Bistaki
2-4 August 2022
101 Outdoor Arts, Greenham Common, Newbury
£95 (including accommodation and catering)

DEADLINE EXTENDED TO SUNDAY 31st JULY

One of Europe’s leading performance ensembles, G.Bistaki invites you to immerse yourself in how to conceive and create work ‘for and with’ natural and urban public spaces. This workshop is for all artists, dancers and physical theatre/circus performers – everyone who uses the body in their work. Bistaki draws on these three fields of artistic expression to create a universal language.

The workshop will study the essential components of writing in public space:

- the architecture of space
- the multiple points of view of the audience
- the social context and histories of the site

The workshop will explore two complementary and essential methods:

- Adapting an existing writing to a chosen space - exploring the ability to spatially and rhythmically modify a personal artistic proposal. Learning to play with space-time, compressing or expanding it. The technique of the artistic chameleon. Not to be afraid of an artistic rewriting, but to enjoy it. Accepting changes. Integrating fiction into reality.

- Writing specifically for and with a chosen space: how to draw inspiration from the socio-architectural setting of a space to generate ideas. To listen to an environment, to observe, to feel and to create exclusively for the place. Turning reality into fiction.

The participants must come with sketches of artistic proposals, even embryonic ones. However we will also create material together during the workshop to bring out new visions and ideas in everyone. We will work dynamically and collectively - being inspired by the input of the group.

The price for the lab is £95 per person.

The lab is fully catered and accommodation is provided in our en-suite cabins.

We are interested in attracting a diversity of voices and particularly welcome applications from individuals that are currently under-represented in the sector.

ACCESS: 101 Outdoor Arts is an accessible venue. We have accessible parking bays, accommodation, rehearsal spaces and WC facilities. The lab content can be captioned or signed, audio described and learning resources are available in large print. Please tell 101 Outdoor Arts what support would enable you to fully participate in this opportunity when completing your application.

COVID: 101 is committed to the safety of our staff and resident artists and has implemented a wide range of measures to ensure that 101 is a Covid secure facility. We are following the safety and hygiene measures for organisations set out by the government in its guidance.
