Connected Directing

Connected Directing

with Flick Ferdinando

28th February – 2nd March

In person at 101 Outdoor Arts

A 2 day directing masterclass for directors and performers who make work for the outdoors and public space.

There are many ways to approach a rehearsal room and support the people that occupy that space. Drawing on her experience working in both indoor and outdoor settings, Flick is now embarking on unpicking some these challenges, to better understand how to facilitate artists throughout the production process, supporting their needs, motivations and desires from rehearsal to performance.

The workshop will cover a range of methods for collaborative communication, inviting you to consider how best to connect both with the work and with the performers, creating an environment where the performer, director and show are all heard. You will explore how to become a better empathetic listener under pressure, practicing ways to identify and manage negative generation in the space, moving through to positive outcomes and good working practice.

Flick Ferdinando has been working as a Director of circus, physical theatre and comedy for over thirty years. Her teaching and directing experience has led to this area of enquiry focusing on pastoral method and practice,

This workshop is for people, at any stage in their career, who want to develop their directing and are prepared to work from self-enquiry. There will be practical exercises and role play. It is an opportunity to discuss and share the sometimes challenging and often enriching experience of being a Director.

Arrivals are from 4pm on Monday 28th February for a welcome dinner where you can get settled in to the facilities and your ensuite accommodation cabin in the 101 Artists Village. Workshops will be between 9.30am and 4.30pm with an hour for lunch and full catering is provided. The cost is £50.
