A practical and informative professional development lab for artists working in Rural Touring
Presented with Applause Rural Touring this practical and informative professional development event aims to give artists insight into how rural touring works in the UK and how to apply for outdoor arts rural touring commissioning opportunities coming up this year.
Take part in a carousel of activities facilitated by a range of artists and producers who have been successfully touring small-scale shows in rural settings for many years to give you the low down on how to get gigs on the rural touring circuits, pricing models and producing tips, the practical do’s and don’ts and what to expect when on the road.
In the afternoon there will also be an opportunity to share ideas around the challenges and opportunities for co-creating work with residents and audiences in rural touring locations and what this might look like during the research and devising process and also during performance and touring.
Who is this workshop for?
This workshop is aimed at artists and producers who:
- Want to learn more about small-scale rural touring within outdoor arts and work for public space contexts
- Already have a show or project that they want to adapt for rural touring
- Do not currently have a project but are interested in creating work specifically for this type of touring
- Want to apply for commissioning opportunities in 2025
- Are exploring ways of engaging audiences in co-creation and participation
"The format worked really well. Hearing from touring networks first gave us a platform to understand the inner workings and structures of the organisations and to visualise what rural touring is like. This was then enhanced by hearing directly from artists, to understand and visualise how to best create and place your own work into rural touring settings."
- Rural Touring 101 Attendee
What happened at Rural Touring 101 last year?
"It's been really wonderful to meet loads of different artists, hear about their aspirations and actually really get into the meat of how you make it work - the limitations as well as the opportunities. "
- Rural Touring 101 Attendee
