Creating in Catalonia
An international residency opportunity with SPASA
November 2026
Tàrrega, Catalonia, Spain
A chance to spend one week in Tàrrega, Catalonia developing work for public space
We're delighted to announce an exciting international development opportunity in partnership with SPASA (Street Performing Arts Synergy Alliance) in the Catalonian town of Tàrrega. Over the past few years, we've been building a strong relationship with SPASA, united by a shared commitment to supporting artists creating work in public space. We're now thrilled to offer one emerging UK outdoor theatre maker the chance to take part in a one-week creative residency in Tàrrega this November.
Hosted by SPASA, who are a Catalan organisation working to support artists and companies working in public space, this residency is an opportunity to step away and explore ideas in a supportive international context. The residency will provide time, space and practical support to test actions, scenes and ideas in public space without expectation of a set outcome. Alongside the residency, the selected artist will receive a small mentoring budget to work with an experienced practitioner - this mentor will be chosen collaboratively by the artist and 101, providing tailored support to help nurture the project.
Who is it for?
We are looking for artists with 3-5 years of professional experience in outdoor arts who have a clear interest in creating work for public spaces and a project idea that is ready for further exploration and development.
We're particularly interested in proposals that engage imaginatively with place, environment and audience, pushing beyond simply presenting work outdoors to create meaningful encounters that respond to public space in creative and unexpected ways.
If you're exploring new ways of connecting with location and audience, this residency offers a unique opportunity to expand your practice, connect internationally, and take your work in exciting new directions.
The selected artist will receive:
- £1500 cash bursary
- Support for travel costs to Tarrega
- Accommodation in shared rooms provided by SPASA
- Catering/subsistence allowance provided by SPASA
- £500 mentoring budget
- Access to 101 and its facilities for further project development
