Festival of Light 2021
FESTIVAL OF LIGHT
Saturday 12th December, Northbrook Street, Newbury
Our annual Festival of Light returned in 2021, transforming Newbury Town Centre into a twinkling wonderland of willow and paper lanterns. 800 lantern bearers joined the parade, and around 4000 people attended the event, enjoying the festive atmosphere and the live music.
This year, we sent out 1700 lantern packs to schools, and six lantern making workshops took place at 101 in the run up to the event. Many people made personalised triangular lanterns, and those who fancied upping their skills could take part in the 'Lantern Making for the Brave' workshop, making more complex and creative lanterns .
Bands that played at the event this year included Jules and the Jacuzzis, and Beatroots Bateria Samba Band.
Keep an eye out on our website and the Corn Exchange next November if you'd like to take part in the event next year.
Part of the Corn Exchange’s annual programme of outdoor arts, the Festival of Light is presented by the Corn Exchange and 101 Outdoor Arts Creation Space and funded by Greenham Trust and Arts Council England.
