Shedonism 2025

Shedonism 2025
Makers Lab

21 - 26 Jan
£80

Shedonism is a professional development gathering, presented exclusively for professional makers creating work for the outdoors and public space.

WHAT IS SHEDONISM?

Shedonism is a gathering of the brilliant minds and skills behind the inventions and sculptures that make UK Outdoor Arts so exciting. It is a chance for the folk that are normally in the workshop and may not tour or go to industry events to get together in the deep of winter to have fun and share ideas and skills.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

At 101 we have a fully equipped workshop that can house all the makers, a large space for test driving, food and accommodation. The makers can bring the projects that have been sat on a shelf in their workshop or their minds and jam it out with everyone - or see what inspires them. It turns into a free flowing marathon of making, eating and after work socialising. We've made a hovercraft, a chainsaw scooter, a rubber band Gatling gun and much more. You can make the things that you’d never be let loose on the street with. The key is sharing your skills.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Shedonism is for makers who for at least part of their lives make inventions, instruments, structures, gadgets and sculptures for presentation in the outdoors and in public spaces. We are interested in attracting a diversity of voices and particularly welcome applications from individuals that are currently under-represented in the sector.

YOUNG MAKER

There are very limited places at Shedonism and we want to make sure that one space is kept for a young maker who is new to the field and keen to get stuck in, learn and network. You may well know this person so please let them know about this opportunity.

"101 is a place to realise dreams and ideas.   That can be impossible in your own studio.  It’s a massive workshop, there’s a place to stay and to meet with other makers, exchange ideas and move projects onto a place he doesn’t think they would go otherwise.  Really really open and supportive. "

- Mark Anderson , sound artist.

Makers Jumble

Each year people bring objects that they don’t need and put them in a pile on the floor to swap or sell. There’s usually a mix of old machinery and interesting bits and bobs.

Last year, there was a free Pillar Drill and Lathe up for grabs!

Meals & Accommodation

Shedonism is fully catered and on-site accommodation is available on a first come first serve basis. Find out more about staying at 101.

We can also recommend local hotels where accommodation is unavailable.

It’s a fantastic workshop and a chance to meet with other people who make.   One year a participant made a small version of a pyrophone – a tube with fire coming out – with flames just a foot high, changing their shape and colour.

"I’ve learnt a lot through Shedonism – I’ve become more comfortable in the sector, meeting new people and forming relationships - people I'd never have met otherwise. People are OK with showing you how something works or telling you how they do it."

- Jess, maker and artist.
